Not too long ago.... much by accident, I discovered I could draw!!

It was a huge surprise.... I guess I'd never tried.... so I never knew.

The moment I realised that I could recreate an image was at my daughters community art class.  

Much by accident.  

When the course started I asked if I could stay .... my daughter was a few years younger than the minimum age for the course but they had made an exception allowing her to join, over protective mum that I am... I didn't feel comfortable just leaving her with a group of older (some teenagers) children and adults she didn't know. 

The lovely ladies at the centre were so welcoming and happy for me to stay.  Any concerns melted away in an instant, this was a special and friendly community. 

Trying to blend in with the furniture and go unnoticed I was a total failure! I didn't want to disrupt the class but I have always thought artist were very fascinating to see in action, this opportunity proved too irresistible to resist! I absorbed every moment like a sponge... a light was sparking inside of a very dark and numb unexploreD nook of my brain!

The lovely staff welcomed me with kindness and a hot cup of tea!  From that moment on, I have learnt so much, formed beautiful friendships and met many wonderful people along the way.   I still stay at every lesson (try and keep me away!) and enjoy every minute of every session!! 

My favourite part of the lessons are seeing all the children develop and express themselves in an artistic way... there is always a real buzz of creativity in the air... many of the finished pieces have been world class to say the least!

Since that first class I observed.... I have tried as much as possible to get my feelings and ideas down on paper or canvas..... Publishing my work on my facebook page....  it didn't take long to get noticed. 

The Secrets out!!

Earlier this week I was commissioned to paint BUN.... Of course I said yes!! So here he is....

Yollie's natural and safe Bug Remedies

**SNIFF SNIFF**  (Hey Sweetie are you sure this thing is working??)  *Sweetie is rolling her eyes and nodding her head to proceed*...... 

Hi!  I am Prince Parker the newest Resident of Fairy Castle Farm....

*giggles and whispers to Sweetie -"Oh okay hunny-bun"*

*Clears throat*  Welcome!! It as been sooooo long, Mothers Day in fact since our last post... *hides face in paws*...... So much has been happening here, I don't want to bombard you in one post! So.... more posts to come to explain it all, but for now I welcome you back and hope you are all well!  

Oh sorry, how rude of me. Let me introduce myself (for those of you who have not seen me before).  My name is Prince Parker of Clydesdale the First.  I am a rescued bunny, found by My Yollie's good friend, well truth be told, I am a Prince and I was on a quest to find my Princess.... and I did, Princess Sweetie the Bold of Fairy Castle Farm to be exact. 

Soon I will dedicate a blog update sharing my quest but for now, please enjoy this latest installment..... on what has been happening in our Kingdom.....  here is some of what Yollie has been 'cooking' lol... 

1/  Fly, Mosquito & Wasp (European) solution.

Combine:

1 Teaspoon honey

1 Teaspoon Yeast

1 cup warm water

Done! 

Why it works: 

The flies are attracted to the gas emitted by the yeast and once they fly in they can't get out!! It is non toxic and totally safe to use. It lasts approx two weeks. 

This solution is so simple to make and very effective.   To get the best results we use it to fill the traps you buy from the hardware.... or you can make your own by cutting a plastic soda bottle 2/3 from the neck (around the circumference) then inverting the top so that the neck sits raised from the base - secure with duct tape and fill 1/2 from the bottom with this solution.

On to Yollie's Insect Repellent....

2.  Bug Repellent 

Take a selection of fresh herbs.

These herbs have been harvested from our Kingdom so were at hand and in season, but you can use any mix (or even just one type) of known bug repellent herb and use as indicated below.

Lavaender, Rosemary, Passionfruit Daisy flower, Wormwood, Pyrethrum leaves, Citronella Geranium 

Fill your Kettle with approximately 4 Cups of water and boil 

Fill a large Saucepan with freshly picked insect repellent herbs 

Once your water has boiled pour directly over herbs

Cover and Boil rapidly on your stove 

Boil for 5 minutes and turn off heat

Allow to stand for 1 hour (minimum) however allow it to steep overnight is ideal

Double Strain the solution to remove all sediment

Your solution is ready to bottle 

Fill a spray bottle with the solution and it is ready to use.

 This spray is safe as it contains no obnoxious chemicals, however it still has natural oils that irritate if ingested in large quantities.  So as a precaution I remove all food/water and never spray directly on anyone fur/feathered or skin ... Common sense too is required if using near precious fabrics or woods... same as any oil products.

Okay, so now I can hear some of you asking "What about the herbs?"  Well, I am glad you asked.... nothing goes to waste at Fairy Castle Farm.... so here is what we do with the cooked ingredients...

3.  Hanging Bug Repellent

Cooked herbs

Take an expandable and breathable bag  (citrus or onion bags are perfect) 

.

Fill the bag with the herbs
Or you can cut down the bag and tie each end making multiple pouches 

And there you have it.... hanging Insect repellent bags.   You can give them a squeeze to reactivate the scent by releasing the oils - the bugs hate it!!

We have noticed that Willow also HATES the smell, but only up close. She happily takes a cat nap beside the bottle but we are careful not to spray the solution near her.

Happy Mother's Day...... Timeouts for Willow ... Happy bunnies ... Teegee's sore tummy

A quick update on happenings in our Kingdom....

Firstly, Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mum's who are celebrating this special occasion with our side of the Globe today. I was spoilt by my wonderful family and had a fantastic day surrounded by love and laughter.

General Hudson (rooster) is doing well, happily imprisoned each and every night (in his nightbox) to keep our neighbour from complaining to council, meaning he can remain king of the Chook House....  his flock are enjoying castle life too... although Tink and Gracie are looking a little moth eaten as they endure a really heavy moult. However, as I can already see their new feathers budding I know they will be happy again very soon.  

Sweetie is doing really well, her incision has pretty much all healed (thank goodness) I can still feel the internal stitches but this is normal as they take a long time to break down.  I am so happy she is bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Her little Prince is perfect and as adorable as ever, I think he is getting bigger... so does that mean the cuteness is growing too??

Willow, bless her is so intrigued by her little bunny brother.... Parker's speed and antics however are  sadly getting her into 'timeout' a little too regularly (for her liking) ... but she is learning, and I am sure will become good friends in no time. Parker is just a little to easily startled by his big Kitty sister. 

Angel is good, not happy that there are new bunny smells about, and acting a little put out during snuggle time with me, but hopefully when Teegee is spayed and I can try and bond all four, he will be smitten with all the extra attention from Sweetie and Parker. (fingers crossed) ....

On to Teegee.... well, the good news is that she is good now.  Yesterday was a very different story! she is also going through a massive moult, I am brushing her and removing as much excess fur as she will endure... it did not prevent her a horrible day of pain, no eating and signs of upset digestive system. (Dejavu of my episode with Sweetie this week) But basically I put in place all the things I did for Sweetie and in 8 hours she was eating again and using her litter tray... It was scary (as it always is) for a good part of the day, but I am pleased at her strength and turnaround so quickly.  I do have to say though.... I am over digestive upsets/infections and general malese.... I am really due a break (looks to heavens, please)

A final note..... With Teegee so unwell yesterday, I did have the opportunity to introduce Parker to her and briefly reunite Sweetie with her mum.... It went really well.... so I also brought Angel into the group (Partly to make sure he smelt the same as Teegee to avoid any scuffles when she was returned to the castle once her appetite and litter box deposits returned)... with fantastic results.  As I was alone I could not get pics but because of the general good behaviour I hope to begin the bonding very soon after Teegee's spay and I am sure there will be plenty of photos then :D I am very happy with the early signs.  I can't describe the feeling inside me when Sweetie wedged her head (from the side) right under her Daddy's tummy!!!  It was so sweet, Angel just lowered his head and began grooming her shoulder... all I could see was Sweetie's rump 'vibrating' from her tooth purring..... I really, really hope they will be properly bonded again.
